Humility draws God in to aid the life and ministry of his servants. “In the world you will have troubles” Jesus said to his disciples in John 14, but with it he promised his “peace” that will be there for us.
My family and I recently met a man who with all his heart wants to be used by God and to give Him all the glory for the boundless desire to pray ceaselessly for revival to sweep the world like a uncontrollable flash fire. His name is Reverend Billy Campbell, a pastor of the First Presbyterian church of the little town my family lives in called, Hendersonville North Carolina.
I approached him to ask if I could write about him as an encouragement for all pastors who want the same intense amount of revival to bring many to repentance and a personal saving relationship with Jesus Christ. My family can’t wait for Friday to roll around because then we can go to his open prayer night called “Awake”, “A community gathering for Spiritual Awakening in the region of West North Carolina through worship, teaching, and prayer.” Revival is the name of the prayer game for this gathering of prayer warriors.
After last Friday’s Awake gathering as the meeting room was being put back in order for Sunday School that weekend, I approached Bill to ask his permission for this blog post. His answer astonished me.
“Write anything you want James, as long as it gives glory to God.”
“Absolutely”, popped out of my mouth as soon as his words hit my mind and emotions.
He continued, saying, “When I fervently pray for revival to hit our little part of the world I am really praying for it to connect as a hub to other Christians praying for revival. There is a much larger group of like-minded brothers and sisters in the Lord in Asheville, and Charlotte and so forth. I am praying for unity, James!’
Then I told him about the story I told you a few days ago about the Holy Spirit leading me to weekly read out load one of the biggest “unity in the faith” scriptures, Ephesians 4:11-16.”
What he said next astonished me.
“James that verse is the very sermon that I am going to preach on this Sunday!”
What can I say… It was not a coincidence. It was God that prompted me to talk to him even though my family and I hadn’t really talked to him privately since we started visiting his Awake group a few months earlier. Life was so busy and he was always talking to other people who had joined the group. Well now I had a very good reason to talk to him and God saw fit to confirm for both him and myself that we need to fervently preach unity in the faith as it relates to revival! Amen!
Let revival hit our hearts deeply and spread out to the nation and abroad for more of God’s work to be done in the hearts of all whose lives we touch through the love of Jesus.
Pray to see how God wants you to be a part of His work to strengthen both unity in the faith and revival.
God will show up when you keep on that road of touching happy, sad, hurt, and needy hearts for Jesus.
